Creating a personal piece or display for a customer is by far the scariest work I do - and one of the biggest privileges! It means that someone has asked me to design something unique and individual that represents them and their personality, and they want me to translate that into a floral display for their home.
It could be something long and elaborate for a dining table, small and compact for a dressing table, or big and imposing for an entrance hall. Sometimes my customer has a good idea of what they want, but doesn’t know how to make the cuts and snips they need; and sometimes all they have is a vase, and I need to work out exactly what they’re looking for from scratch.
I start with a home visit, gauging the size and the space. Then we discuss what you love, what you don’t love, the overall impression you’re looking for, and how much you’re comfortable doing to maintain it as time goes on. Like my other work, it will be a mixture of fresh and silk – so you could have a big vase of foliage, which you replace with fresh lilies every week, or it could be a mixture of silk flowers and seasonal ones that you refresh depending on the time of year.
Whatever the combination, it will be a bespoke piece that’s a complete one-off: unique to you, perfect for the space you want to fill, and the time you have to give it.
